Wednesday's What I Found - Super Easy Snowman Saw

Ok, I got these round sponges over the weekend with the strong desire to paint me some snowmen.
So, I was literally walking around the house this morning looking for something to paint snowmen on!!!  When I spotted these handsaws that I picked up at ReStore over the summer, I knew they would be perfect!

I dry-sponged (got the sponged wet with paint and then dabbed it off on paper) the entire saw giving it a snowy look.
Then I painted my snow mens' bodies.  These sponges make it really easy...although my first one turned out a little chubby...oh well, he'll fit right in around here!
After the paint dried, I took a paint pen and wrote my phrase..."Let it Snow".  You obviously could use whatever phrase you like...that's just the one that popped into my head.
Next, I gave the snowmen arms, buttons, and faces with permanent marker and then top coated it with a clear coat.
This didn't take anytime at all and will make a nice gift, I think.

I painted another one to have something on hand just in case I forgot someone on my list or maybe I'll keep it for myself.  It looks nice next to my toolbox!

Blessings,

Salt Dough Wreath

This has been a week of baking at our house.  We made six different kinds of cookies on Tuesday and got them all ready to ship out to friends, teachers, and neighbors.
Wednesday we worked most of the day on salt dough ornaments and wreaths for gifts.  I made several more of the gingerbread men wreaths
and made a ton of star ornaments for the girls in my class at church.

While making the ornaments, I got the idea to make a star wreath similar to the gingerbread one.

So, I made my salt dough and cut out the stars.

Next, I placed them on the baking pan lined with parchment paper (this is key so it doesn't stick!!).  I attached the stars by placing a little dab of water where the stars touch.  Then I baked according to the recipe.

I put a coat of polyurethane on the stars and while wet, My Princess and I sprinkled glitter on them.
Finally, I just attached a ribbon and now have a beautiful new Christmas wreath that will last.

I'm not going to pack this one away after Christmas...I'll save it and use it for the 4th of July too.
Blessings,

Wednesday's What I Found - Rustic ReStore Finds

Just in case I need to remind you...I love ReStore.  I have had so much fun finding inexpensive and charming things to decorate our house.  This last week I almost didn't go but my Better Half called me from ReStore and encouraged me to meet him there...I am sooo glad I did.
My Better Half found the washboard while I spotted the crate and ladder.
The ladder was only $4 and I couldn't have distressed it better had I done it myself.
The crate was $4 also.

I've already put them both to use.  The crate is housing this precious snowman family my mom made for me.

The ladder is showcasing my Christmas cards.
I was really excited when I came down this morning and caught my son checking out the cards.  I'm not sure he would have paid attention had they not been displayed!
I.  Love.  ReStore.

Blessings,

Amish Peanut Butter Spread

I waited tables for several years at an Amish restaurant.  All the cooks and many of the waitresses were Amish.  We had to wear dresses with bibbed aprons and our hair up, so I would often be asked if I was Amish.  My kids think that is hilarious since well, I'm not Amish, and they have grown up here, very near a busy Amish community and know the obvious differences in the dress of Amish compared to our  family.  Anyway, the food at this restaurant was delicious!  I would always end my shift with a side of mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans all mixed together.  YUM!  I would top off my mini-meal with the most delicious concoction known as Amish Peanut Butter Spread.
My Better Half bought some for my birthday and I have been savoring it ever since.  It's a bit pricey for my liking and with 6 of us around here it won't last long.  So I searched for a recipe and low and behold...Amish Peanut Butter Spread.

Here's a yummy recipe or you can print it out here:
Amish Peanut Butter Spread
3 1/2 ounces Marshmallow Cream
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup dark corn syrup
1 cup peanut butter
1/4 teaspoon maple flavoring
Pinch of salt
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly.

This is absolutely faboo!  It's great to spread on crackers, toast, homemade bread, rolls, or just stealing a snack on your finger.
It would also make a wonderful Christmas gift, packaged nicely and tied with a pretty bow.

Enjoy!
Blessings,

Decorating My Porch for Christmas

We haven't gotten much snow yet here in NE Ohio.  I say "yet" because I know it's coming.  A friend of ours plows for a living and says that we get at least 102 inches every year regardless of when...we get it.  So, I'm bracing myself for the down pour here soon.  Last week, we got a light snow fall and so I sacrificed myself for you, my beloved viewers (wink, wink) and went out into the snow to get some pictures of my front porch with the fresh snow.
It's nothing fancy...but that's how I like it.  I cut the greens from some pine trees behind my house.  This was the first year I thought to do this...what took me so long??  We've only lived here 17 years!

My front door has this adorable snowman with our names written on it.  I attached it to an artificial wreath and then just stuffed some real pine branches in it to give it a more "real" look.
The little chair was $3 and the lantern was $2 at ReStore.  The bucket with my greens came from a flea market.
The decorated sled was a curbside find.  Love those freebies!!

Wednesday's What I Found - Curbside Find Put to Use

Yesterday, I spent the day with my family at a place I love to go each December.  It is an indoor Christmas tree display.
The inspiration and ideas were tremendous.
After seeing all those Christmas trees, I thought I'd show you mine.  Mine doesn't compare to those in appearance but it is filled with memories as every year we add at least one new ornament and it is usually from a trip we have been on or a special memory we made that year.

Several weeks ago,  I showed you a curbside find my Better Half discovered.

I wasn't sure what I would use it for but I knew there were plenty possibilities.
We were getting ready to put our Christmas tree up on Thanksgiving evening and the thought popped into my head to put my Christmas tree into this old wash tub.
It would make my thrift store Christmas tree look a little rustic and potentially more real by placing it in this tub.  I had some tulle that I had used for a tree-skirt last year...I stuffed in the tub to give it some color at the base.
 {LOVE} the result!!
