Organizing My Bills and Paperwork

Happy New Year!!

Are you are new year's resolution kinda person??  I say I'm not, but I do try to be more organized and more frugal each year and I'm always starting out a new year eating healthier, drinking more water, and the like.  Do you remember that I started off last year with my 12 week organizational challenge.  I got a lot accomplished but, you can never be too organized, right?
My office space is limited to a basket inside a cabinet in my kitchen.  The basket holds bills that need to be paid, coupons I'm saving, tax receipts, and basically any important papers.

Pretty pathetic way to organize such important stuff, huh?!

I do pretty well paying bills on time but this "system" is just a recipe for disaster.  So, I decided to get myself organized for this new 2013 year.

I purchased an accordion file to clear out my basket.

After throwing away all the junk and putting other papers where they belong, I was able to condense all my paperwork to this file folder.

I used my label maker to label the pockets.  

Then I bought a 12 pocket accordion file to file my bills month by month, after I get them paid.

This file was already labeled with the months of the year so I'm all ready to go.

One thing that I know has helped me in the bill paying department,  is to use online bill pay.  This is such a wonderful convenience.  On the 1st of each month, I schedule the payment of all my bills for the entire month.  That way I do it all in one swipe and don't have to worry about paying a bill later in the month. These free bill payment checklists come in handy too.

Keeping all my passwords for online resources organized is imperative.  I like to store my passwords in my yearly planner.

I rewrite them every year...getting rid of the ones we don't use anymore.

In my bill basket there was a printer cable.  I use this when I'm hooking my laptop or other device to my printer, but storing it in my bill basket was well, not neat and tidy.  So, I am now storing it and some other cables in toilet paper rolls.

I just label the rolls so I can remember what the cords and cables go to.  

So, for under $10, I have organized my little bill paying area.  Hopefully taking the time and little bit of money will save me both time and money in the long run!
