Organizing Week 7 - Bathroom Vanity

This is my bathroom...you have my spray painted faucet, my spray painted vanity and medicine cabinet (they used to match my kitchen cabinets...what a transformation, huh?), my spray painted garbage can and so on...looks pretty harmless, right?!
WRONG!!!  Oh me - oh my...my bathroom vanity is a MESS!!

How do things get this bad?!
Not anymore...I'm tired of the mess.  We are going to use the space we have and use it well!!
I paid one of my boys to take everything out and organize "like things"  throwing away any junk.
This made it easier to get it all together after I picked up some Dollar Store containers.
I labeled them with some burlap tags (I just cut strips of burlap and then used a sharpie to write on them) and each of us has one to keep our personal things in.
I cleaned out this nasty vanity as well.
I guess I could have wiped it out but I have no intentions of using it again!
If When I redo my bathroom, the vanity is going and I want to replace it with a nice mirror.  So I thought I'd get a jump start and store the stuff from it in our own little boxes.
Doesn't it look so much better?  We've been using this system of boxes for a couple of weeks now and everyone is doing very well putting things back where they belong.  It makes for a nice clean counter top too!
The drawers are now holding just washcloths and hand towels.

I found this organizer for inside the door.  It's a great place for our toothpaste and my curling iron and brush.
LOVE it!
Are you getting organized and staying organized??
It's such a good feeling!!
Blessings

  1. Looks great! Though I have to say mine is 5x worse than yours was...will have to hit up Dollar store for those containers- great affordable idea :) Where did you find that over the cupboard door organizer and was it expensive?? I am thinking you will inspire me to clean my home- I am moving in 4 mths and need to get a handle on things now

  3. I had to laugh because I raised 4 also...3 boys and a girl and my husband's name was Mark. But when you said "How does it get this bad"? I laughed because I used to say the same thing and I'll answer that question....There's only 1 of YOU and 5 of them!!!LOL! You are WAY outnumbered! LOL! I used to scratch my head all the time trying to figure out why I couldn't stay on top of things and the answer was right in front of me running around and some were sitting on the couch! But they were a big help too and we did some fun projects together and gardened together and made memories. Good ones I hope!
I think it was you that got me going on my kitchen and now my cupboards but I am way slower than you but I love that at this stage of my life I can go at my own pace...which, granted, is more like a snail these days but I still love making a house a home. Thanks for the inspiration and blessings to you and your beautiful family.

  4. Thanks so much for the sweet comment. I am certainly outnumbered...great theory!! My kids are helpful (when they want to be) and I do greatly appreciate their help. I certainly couldn't do all I do now without their help. I too hope they are making good memories...being a family and working together.
Thanks for sticking around for my organizing adventure...keep going on the kitchen!!
    Blessings,
    Carrie

  10. What a simple thing to put names on the boxes. I'd have put thing together by product and left everyone opening and closing box after box! Great tip.

  19. I just tweaked under my bathroom sink. I installed toothbrush holders (the metal kind with a cup hole in the middle) in the inside of the door. 2 hairbrushes fit in each cup hole! No more basket of brushes on the vanity counter!!
