Organizing Challenge Week 4 - The Laundry

I was just in the laundry room (it's not really a room...it's a corner in my basement) and took a load out of the dryer.  I took them to my son (who was playing video games) to fold.  He said "Mom, I'm a Laundry-a-Phobiac".  Oh my...aren't we all!!??
This week I worked on organizing my laundry area and making it look a little nicer.
It wouldn't take much, I know!!
I added a few little touches that make a big difference.
I had to hide that whole in the wall!  It is the gas shut-off valve which we have to have access to, so I hung this washboard I picked up at ReStore.  I got a few other treasures that day too.
The obnoxious plumbing needed a paint job.
My Better Half tells me these are going behind the wall...but it wasn't happening this week so I just painted them to blend in with the wall.

I covered my baskets with a strip of material.  This is the material that was left over from my kitchen awnings.
What a difference a little material makes.  It certainly does a good job of hiding all my laundry supplies.  I went through my baskets too and took out anything that was not a laundry supply too.
I showed you my new laundry room sign earlier this week.  Here is how I made it.
I love the saying...it cracks me up every time I read it!
This clothes pin was a Hobby Lobby clearance find.  (My sister and I spent 2 hours there on Saturday...what a dream!)
I used stain and dry brushed some black paint on it to give it a distressed look.
The bucket is for all our mismatched socks.  I looked into making a cute board with clothes pins to hold all our mismatched socks but seriously, I don't think I could find a board long enough!!  What is it with mismatched socks!  I think this bucket will be big enough!
And finally, my washer and dryer...nothing fancy about them.  I got my dryer when we first got married and it's a champ.  My washer is new to me from ReStore.  I had been looking for a front load washer since my old washer barely got anything clean anymore and could only wash a medium load at a time.  This doesn't fare well with six of us.  SOooo, I've been keeping my eyes open for a used washer and I found this one at ReStore for a little bit of nothing.  I'm so excited!  It washes amazingly well and I can stuff it full!

See the stuff under my steps to the right...that's another organizational project coming up soon!

So what do you think?  I'm not sure the spruced up, organized joint is gonna make me want to do laundry any more than I did before but at least the space looks nice and I had fun doing it!

  1. Taking what is fixed and making it look good is creative. You made the laundry room/space a visual treat. Love your sign, actually love everything you added. The strip of cloth on each basket made a big impact too.

  5. What a transformation! You're way better than those t.v. shows! LOL! I got rid of cable and now I just blog to get the good ideas! It is so cute and who knew you could paint those stupid foil laundry vents! I learn so much from you! Check my blog tomorrow www.farmgirlsam.com I've been working on my kitchen and I have ugly wallpaper that I'm not going to mess with now until I get the whole place organized and clean and then I'll go back and do that if I'm still here. I want to get my house on the market so I don't want to get into any major projects. Just clean and neat and decorative. I know they tell you to make it sparse and impersonal when you're trying to sell but that is not my style and I am in no way a minimalist...it would drive me crazy! And anyway, where would I put it all! LOL!
I love that laundry room! You should be so proud of yourself! You go girl!

    1. My mom and dad's house is on the market now and the realtor told them to make it plain jane-like. It has quite a bit of wall paper through the house and they told my mom to take it down. She didn't yet either. I know everyone's decorating sense is different but...some decorating sense is always good, right? I hope your house sells quickly!!
Thanks for visiting...and all your sweet comments. I'll check out your post!

  6. I think it looks great. I just redid my laundry room as well. I guess it's because we spend so much time in there.

  11. It looks great!! Love the bucket for socks and that clothes pin. My "laundry room" is in the bowels of the unfinished basement. It depresses me to go down there. You have inspired me to try and make it look nicer. Not finishing the basement anytime soon, but you have shown it can still look cute. Good job!

  12. Just proves what good things you can do with a little bit of nuttin'! I'm going to show this to my daughter...we have a whole laundry room...well, half a room anyway...it's a walk through to the garage. But it has such POSSIBILITIES!!!! I just have to talk her into letting me do it. Thanks for the help!

  13. Very cool! I showed hubs and we have an old washboard about the size of yours catching dust downstairs (not for long) and I think a copy of your Laundry Today sign will be made up, too. Too funny, gotta do something to brighten laundry time. Well done!

My Mama used to say, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
I'll add, "If you HAVE something nice to say, share generously."
