Well, I certainly hope I'm not about to scare anyone but...
MY
HOUSE
IS
OUTTA
CONTROL!!
When people visit my house they always tell me how relaxing and calm it is...boy, do I have them fooled!!
The holidays, homeschooling, and life in general, have wreaked HAVOC on any organization I once had.
So, It's time for a fresh start, right? I am committed to getting organized, one week at a time. So this is week one...here we go!
My house everywhere, was complete chaos this week as I took down Christmas decorations and got our living space back to live-able.Is this what your house looked like this week??
So, I'm starting with a small space because that's all I had time for.
The top of my refrigerator is a catch-all for tools, hardware, knives, and misc and the canisters were not being used for their intended purpose. All they were storing was a bunch of junk...old chargers, batteries, bulbs and headphones. Most of which I was quickly able to pitch in the trash.
So, I cleaned off the frig washed it down really well and then spruced up my canisters. They were a bit outdated (I got them as a wedding present almost 19 years ago) and didn't really fit in with my cafe-style kitchen.
I just flipped them around (hiding the flowers on the back) and made tags for them...identifying what it is in each.
Then made some rosettes like the ones I made from my dollar store baskets, using left-over material from my kitchen awnings.
I hot glued them both to the canisters and this is what the canisters look like after their mini-makeover.
I also made a magnet to hold my grocery list and a magnet for My Princess' artwork.
This is the total frig transformation.
I filled the canisters with the appropriate contents...who knew canisters could hold so much flour and sugar!!??
It's a small start, but I have to start somewhere! What about you? Are you getting organized this year?
Blessings,

ReplyDeleteYep--I am starting the whole get organized thing too...I have a Better Homes and Gardens organization and storage calendar over at my blog if you wanna join me. :)
Love the canisters! Such an amazing idea! My husband and I are getting our house organized right now too. Our house looked like a bomb went off. lol Next weekend, we will be making a trip to ikea to get some items for storage. Hopefully it will be a success! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!! I love the makeover-ed canisters!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like I always click on your links from The Frugal Girls Chic & Crafty party. You sure know how to grab my eye, it seems :). I'm following your cute blog!!
Very smart of you!! Loved how the canisters turned out. This is how I get my house organzied. I start in January and allow one room per month. Each week of the month I do "one wall" of the room I am working on. I dust it down, wash anything that can be hand washed, dust other items. Eventually I make it around the room and then the next month, go to the next room. (During all of this "extra" work, I do keep up my regular schedule of housework, laundry, etc.)
ReplyDeletevery pretty!!! i'm trying to get organized too!!! now following :) would love you to follow back if ya like! ;)

When I looked at your first photos, up to the pine needles on the floor (we have an artificial tree), I said "that's my house!!!" So there's hope! Your fridge looks so nice now. Know you'll have company as you work.

Great job - those are so so cute!!
ReplyDeleteLove the canisters. They look lovely. I might worry that my kids (or myself) would spill their contents taking them down from the fridge...but my kids are pretty young.
ReplyDeleteI love the labels! And the flowers are adorable! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteVery clever redo, Carrie! The color of the canisters does work so well in your kitchen and I love how you matched the window treatment fabric with these projects.
ReplyDeleteCarrie,
ReplyDeleteIf you decide to get rid of your canisters let me know as I have the set of dishes and would love these.

Love it! I am working on kitchen organization right now and I can't believe how awful my cabinets had gotten. November and December are the months my semi-organized life goes right out the window. I love how you made your containers so pretty! If you have a moment, I'd love for you to share with my readers. Thanks for sharing :) http://www.momontimeout.com/2012/01/taking-timeout-thursday-no-12.html
ReplyDeleteYour updated canisters look so pretty with the flowers you made. I must admit that I actually thought you were going to use them to hold the cords and stuff. hehehe I also think it was so smart of you to just turn them around to cover the flowers you didn't like.
ReplyDeleteHow cute!
