The colors were very limited...burgundy and a blue striped variety. I really wanted black but I knew if I had to get them elsewhere I would pay quite a bit more for them. So, I picked them up for $1 each {CRAZY} and pulled out my trusty spray paint and got busy.
The weather here has turned wintery so I can't spray paint outside or even in the garage anymore so I've been using this big box as my spray booth. It works really well and keeps all the mess contained to this one space.
Pretty cool, huh? What an easy and cheap solution.
Once again spray paint to the rescue!!
I started thinking that I would like to spruce them up a bit further so I took a strip of material from my curtains and pillows, folded it over and sewed one side...leaving the other side finished. Then I took a piece of felt and traced a circle on it using the bottom of my spray paint can as a guide.
Next I just started hot gluing the strip of material around the felt, working my way to the center.
When I got to the center, I just tucked it in and hot glued it.
Finally, I hot glued the rosettes to the smaller dollar store containers.
On the bigger containers I added a piece of material around the outside and then glued the rosettes on the front.
{LOVE IT}
Such an easy, inexpensive way to make something drab look fab!!

ReplyDeleteHi Michelle,
ReplyDeleteSorry it took me so long to get back to you. I was looking for the receipt so I could be exact about the name of the fabric. On my receipt it says METR DAMASK BLACK AND WHITE sku # 400110597719
I tried to enter this online to get more information but it wasn't coming up with anything specific. Like I said in the post, it was in the quilting section.
I hope this helps!!
Thanks for visiting and commenting.

ReplyDeleteThese look AMAZING! I've often seen those bins at the Dollar Tree and never came home with any because they weren't the right color! So smart to spray paint them! Thanks for sharing! Found your project via Pinterest, btw! xoxo
ReplyDeleteHow cute is that??? And how is the faucet holding up? Great rosettes!
ReplyDeleteGreat job...Wish i had the creativity mind that you have..I hope you don't mind if i use your idea in the near future..I'm curious, if the paint smell for a length of time or not.
ReplyDeleteI tried your idea but am having a hard time getting the paint to cover the fabric on the collapsible boxes. I tried spraying the burgundy ones chocolate brown but can still see the burgundy through the paint. Any suggestions? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIn regard to the question about the paint not covering...I used probably 5 coats of paint until there was no burgundy showing. My recommendation would be to just apply more coats until all you see is chocolate brown. I hope you can get it to cover. I am really loving mine.
ReplyDeleteSo resourceful! Great job!
ReplyDeleteoh my! i seen this on pinterest and just had to repin it. this idea of yours is GENIUS! can't wait to do it with some of the ones i've already purchased. thanks for such a wonderful idea!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteThese look great! What dollar store was it? Most of the ones I have been in have things that are much more than a dollar.
ReplyDeleteI got them at Dollar Tree. I still see them there on a regular basis for $1.
