How's It Holding Up?? - The Faucet

Two months ago, I posted on some unusual items in my home that got spruced up with spray paint. See the whole post HERE.
My bathroom faucet was the most bold.  I told you that I would keep you posted on how it held up.  So, here goes.
I didn't prime the faucet or paint it with anything special.
I just wiped it down really well and then spray painted it with my $.97 can of paint.
It held up very well in my opinion.  This is our main bathroom and there are six of us home most all of the time.
So, to say the least...the bathroom gets a ton of use!!
The handles got the most use.  The cold one to be exact.

Then as I was cleaning the bathroom this weekend, I scrubbed a little too hard and a big chunk of paint came off at the base.
I was kind of frustrated and then I realized that there was a five minute and under $1 fix available.:)
This time however, I decided to use a metal brush and scrub all the paint off and start fresh.
A real beauty, huh?!

Next, I primed the faucet,


and spray painted it again.  The results look better than new.
I am assuming it will last longer this way and I won't have to be so careful when I clean.
However, for the amount of use this bathroom has gotten since I painted the faucet two months ago, I think $.97 and five minutes of my time was a great investment!

  1. Wow I'd say it held up great since it was used often :) I would love to turn all our interior doorknobs from gold to brushed nickel - it's nice to see how it held up on your faucet :D

  13. Wow this is so great to know! When we remodeled our kitchen 2 years ago, we bought a "ORB" faucet. Within 2 years I have it worn off completely on one side. So knowing if I can spray paint and it will last to hold off the cost of buying an new one. Would you please post this at my 1st Sunday's Best Party. You need to share!

  17. I would guess that the second method is going to hold up better -- it's tough with something that is used so often by so many! I love the flat black though -- it looks fantastic!

  30. That looks stunning! Such a easy fix. Last night I turned on my kitchen tap and the faucet flew off so I had an impromptu water feature - I'm seeing the funny side of it tonight, definitely wasn't laughing last night! Definitely need to do something to the kitchen tap!

  40. Thank you again for all the feedback and comments. You guys are the greatest. I did spray paint this right in the bathroom and still attached to the bathroom sink/counter. I taped and laid paper down all over the counter and up the wall behind the faucet. I did get some paint mist here and there but was able to get it off the porcelain sink area with nail polish remover. Be Brave!!!

  42. Try using automotive spray primer (available at Home Depot, Lowes)then pain with Orb. Will hold up great and you can do that with door knobs too.
